Sugar Ridge is extremely grateful to announce that we have been awarded the Gold Certification of the Gold Green Globe Award. We are especially honoured because we are the first resort in the Eastern Caribbean to achieve the Gold Certification.
Green Globe Certification is the worldwide sustainability system based on internationally accepted criteria for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism businesses.
At Sugar Ridge Resort, the owners, management, and staff of the resort believe that we are a gateway for clients to enjoy the diverse offerings of our island – whether through appreciating the scenic views of the island on a hike, shuttled to one of our many beaches, or sampling the island’s culture and cuisine at our top-class restaurants. Sugar Ridge provides a setting to enjoy the authentic Antiguan culture in a comfortable way, with staff ready and trained to deliver the highest quality of service.
Sugar Ridge began the process of gaining certification in 2011 and earned our first in 2012, becoming the first resort on Antigua to earn Green Globe status. Five years later and now Sugar Ridge is the first resort in the eastern Caribbean to earn the Gold Certification.
Sugar Ridge has just replaced all air conditioning units in rooms with inverter air conditioning, saving approximately 60% in electrical costs. We have also installed more than forty electrical and water sub meters, and recycle as much as possible.
As part of the Green initiative, Sugar Ridge is developing signature activities that will take place around the community, such as beach cleanups, volunteering at Non-Profit Organizations, providing internships for students from our Hospitality Training School, and conducting educational talks at schools in the area.
Sugar Ridge is extremely honoured to be recognized for the Gold Certification, and we look forward to continuing our Green initiatives, and providing the highest quality of service to all our guests.
